How does the basic equalizing hitch work?
An equalizing hitch (also known as a weight distributing hitch) works by
distributing the hitch weight onto the other axles of the tow vehicle and the trailer.
Think of the weight distribution bars as the handles on a wheelbarrow. Lifting up
distributes more weight and raises the hitch. Lowering increases the weight and
lowers the hitch.
Does tightening the bars one link help or hurt?
Changing links is how adjustments are made to the towing level of the rig. The ideal
is to have the tow vehicle and the trailer sitting level when hitched.
OLD TIME MYTHS AND REMEDIES
- Rv Tech Magazine
Insufficient cooling of your Refrigerator
Many absorption refrigeration users have been advised, because of lack of
education, to try the following remedies. Roll the refrigerator, hit it with a hammer,
or ride down a bumpy road with the unit in the bed of a truck, or flip it upside down
for a day and then return it to the upright position. When these remedies failed to
produce the desired result, the unit is taken in to a service center for proper
diagnosis and repair.
If the refrigerator did work after this remedy, in all probability the cooling unit was
never the problem to begin with.
Either dirt was in the gas line or orifice, or there was a bad connection in the wiring
or one of the controls. Throwing, dropping, torching and hammering on the unit
could be very dangerous unless no charge exists in the unit, in which case a leak is
the problem and the remedy would not repair a leak.
They're so soft!
I guess this explains why the subject of mice in RV's is always brought up, here is one
owners response to the furry varmints ; it was to spread Downy Fabric Softener
(sheets) around the inside of the motorhome. They put a full box, opened on one
end, under the sink cabinet in the bathroom where the gray water goes into the
holding tank. That was last summer, the box of Downy is still there and they have
not seen any sign of mice.
Tank Monitoring System
Did you know that on most new 2004 model Airstreams they now have the new
Micro Pulse System tank monitoring system? This is pressure sensitive system based
on tank size and water volume, there are no probes to become corroded or suffer
from paper build up.
Moonlighting
An Airstreamer in a motorhome became hopelessly bogged down in an unexpected
muddy hole along a dirt road. After a few minutes, a passing farmer drove by on his
tractor and offered to pull him out for only twenty dollars. After the motorhome
was back on dry ground, the RVer said to the farmer, "At those prices, I bet you're
pulling vehicles out of the mud day and night.
" Can't," replied the farmer. " At night I haul water for the hole."
See you on down the road! Watch out for the mud.
