Smile Key West camping

Considering going to the Key West, FL. area and I've heard there are places to hook up the trailer right on the ocean. If that is so, what places are they? Is the fall a good time to go or is that big wind season?

Hopefully someone with some Key West, FL experience will step
in here. Ive traveled alot in Florida but unfortunately have not yet
been to Key West. I know a number of people who've been and
the opinions are all the same....
can we just stay?

Key West is quite pricey. My 2005 Edition of Trailer Life lists prices that range up to $100 a day. I would imagine it is quite a lot more now.

You can check for some of the Florida State Parks but those sites are pretty well booked up. However, all is not lost. Look for the Follow Me To Paradise Rallly in the Blue Beret (Nov. P 9 Special Event Rallies). The South Florida runs this rally in April 11 -19 which is a real nice time down there. You can contact Fran Perrucci who is handling the registrations at franperr@juno.com
The rally begins with three days of dry camping with tours around Ft. Lauderdale and then caravans down to Sunshine Key which is about 30 miles from Key West. I believe the rally fee is $75 p/p . Camping at Sunshine Key is $35 per unit.

Oops, I forgot. There used to be space available for retired military at the dock but I don't know if the base is still active. I believe there is a site which lists all camping at military bases.

Thanks for the insight, I will check with Fran about the rally you have suggested.

I guess you are forgiven for your mistake, at least you are trying to help me in my search for campsites in that area. I appreciate that.

I notice on another thread that Airstream Life is now on the web which is great and it is free. I subscribe to the hardcopy and love to read the articles, etc.

I noticed in the previous issue is a short article on camping in the key area.

Wish my wife and I could be there now, but have to wait until she retires at the end of this next semester.
