Default winter camping question

Hope to be pulling an as in next year or so.

would like to hear from anyone who winters in an airstream. Seems to a newbee that airstream would not be very energy efficient, and are pipes and tanks etc. more exposed to elements than other units?

Default Re: winter camping question

Every winter my job location is temporaraly moved, and I've spent the last three winters living full time in my Airstream. It handles the weather just fine. I'm always comfortable inside, and I've never had an issue due to weather. My tanks, and water pipes are all heated via the furnace.

I must leave the water drip somewhere in the AS during freezing weather to keep the fresh water hose from freezing up, but if that were not possible I could heat tape and insulate the hose, or utilize my freshwater tank.

The winter prior to buying my Airstream I tried the same thing in a nice new Winnebago Class C, the experience was certainly inferior as the motorhome lacked adequate insulation and was always cold.

I don't think that all Airstreams have the heated tanks and water lines like mine does, it would certainly be wise to check if winter use was in the cards.

My winter use is in the Seattle area, so not the coldest climate by any means, but I certainly don't push the AS to it's capacity and know that the furnace could work a great deal harder if I ever needed it to do so.
