Default Equal-i-zer Brand Hitch

The Equal-i-zer weight distributing hitch is an economical alternative to the Hensley Arrow.
One sixth the cost, one fifth the weight. Available at any quality RV accessory outlet. Simple to assemble and install.
Next to the Hensley the shortest learning curve in the business.
IMHO

The EQ is on a par with the Reese Dual Cam (DC) setup. These sway control mechanisms are a step up from the usual braking bar but a step down from the Hensley, Propride and other geometry changing hitches.

The EQ has an advantage over the Reese DC in that is has fewer parts to mount on the A Frame. Lindon hitch makes the Equal-i-zer brand and there are some others that work the same way. The Reese DC can be added to many existing load leveling setups which is one reason why it is rather more popular than the EQ.

You should always start with tires and suspension first if you are having handling problems towing the trailer. Also check to make sure that 12% or so of the trailer weight is on the tongue. Keep your trailer tires at max sidewall rated pressure.

Sway control is a handling improvement effort much like shock absorbers and steering dampers. They'll make your drive more comfortable and less stressful but don't think they are going to save you from disaster.

My Equal-i-zer hitch is eight years old. About two years ago a problem developed and it progressively got worse. After stopping at a stopsign or stoplight, there would be a "thunk" when initially accelerating. I could feel it in the steering wheel. I didn't know if the A frame was moving on the ball, or if something was loose on the hitch, or what. Last month while staying at the Washington Land Yacht Harbor I discovered that I could move the hitch head back and forth at least 1/8". The hole for the pin had elongated due to lots of use. I tried a new pin, with no help. I visited the RV Hitch and Welding Shop near WLYH, and the recommended fix was to replace the Reese receiver and shaft that bolts onto the hitch head.

Best $410 I have spent on a long while. The "thunk" is gone, and it tows like a dream. I'll bet that safety has been improved as well, although I saw no cracks beginning to start on the old receiver.

Our old Equal-i-zer is still performing as advertised. I like it.

Hi, five years with my Equal-i-zer hitch with no sway, no worn out parts, and no broken parts. I did end up buying the "L" bracket pads and will be testing them out In October.

Hi, last month we took a 15 day trip with our Airstream. We started out by attending a Rally and then our determined destination was South Dakota. We went about 3,800 miles and encountered temps ranging from zero degrees to 98 degrees and altitudes rangeing from sea level to around 10,000 feet. My Equal-i-zer plastic "L" bracket pads worked out just fine. The only noticeable difference was the lack of moaning and groaning on turns, especially during slow, sharp turns in camp grounds. If you don't have the plastic pads I would recommend them. So far this is the only picture that I have of my hitch with the plastic pads in use. You can see that they are there by the widened area on the "L" bracket under my spring bar.

We stayed at the Crazy Horse camp ground in Custer, South Dakota; They have about 120 sites and we were the only one there. [are we crazy?]
